The exhibition "New South" opened in November 2015 at Galerie CROUX in Paris and showcased the work of architects, including two Next Generation prize winners, Meriem Chabani and Chamss Doha Oulkadi. The works explored how sustainable design can address economic, social, cultural, and environmental challenges by examining different ways of living, construction methodologies, and cultural representations in developing cities of the Global South.
"New South" featured designs from six cities in the Southern hemisphere: Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso, Chittagong in Bangladesh, Tangier in Morocco, Mecca in Saudi Arabia, Tenerife in the Canary Islands (Spain), and Agadir in Morocco. The design responses are informed by various disciplines, including geopolitics, anthropology, and sociology, as they actively questioning the place of the architect in the global context and the hybridisation of local knowledge and contemporary visions.
