Our own land
Series of 40 photographs

Our own land is an artistic project that aims to define and create a new space on the basis of our founding myths such as the Epic of Gilgamesh or the accounts of the rise and fall of empires in Ibn Khaldoun’s Kitab al-ibar, and in this case, the myth of Romulus and Remus. The pandemic has pushed us to shrink our living spaces and has accelerated the erosion of our contemporary myths. In contrast to Romulus’s circular gesture, I have chosen the square to reinvent my environment. The square and the cube, both fundamental and divine, are two geometric shapes that frequently appear in my work.
In spiritual symbolism, the square represents the Earth. I chose to create a 3x3 meter square using plaster powder to express my thoughts and face my fears. This space serves as a moment of meditation and reflection, both personal and inviting, transforming my square into a vessel for my emotions. This nomadic and transient journey follows me, endlessly reconstructible, as I strive to create a new world.
